Writer’s note: For those who have been reading this blog from its inception, some of the next parts of this serial might bear an uncanny resembelance to a previously removed story.  No, your eyes are not deceiving you.

Yonah walked back to his house, sure of himself for the first time in…in as long as he could really remember.  He wanted this for so long, but now felt confident in himself – he was sure that he was making the ‘right’ choice.  He dialed up a rebbi from one of the yeshivas that he had spent a large chunk of his seminal yeshiva days at.

Kisses goodnight were delicately applied to the cheeks of Yonah’s sleeping children before he himself decided to turn in for the night.

Lemkele was working on her laptop, drudging through her unending quota of bookkeeping requirements for the company she worked for via ‘conveniant’ telecommunication.

Night Out on the Town Part (4)

This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series Night Out on the Town

Okay, so Aaron was right, the place was a gay bar.  My original mis-impression was due (in part) to my original dealing with the bartender; the guy was straight as an arrow.  The signs of his masculinity were clear in every measurable way, add to that the enhancement that his plugged-in IPhone sitting next to the register provided the mild voyeur (me):  It’s screen-saver consisted of an attractive lady in provocative pose.

My Niece and I (Part 9)

Chavie’s sitting snugly in the vinyl back seat of my Altima in much the way I envision the infant Moses was when cruising down the Nile in his little ark.  She’s not quick with an answer, giving me both the opportunity to make her an offer (along with the considerable duty of delivering on whatever overture leaves my mouth).  My first two suggestions were vetoed by her, but the third one charmed her.

This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series Night Out on the Town

I shrugged at Aaron and told him that I was going to head over to the bar for a refill.  He declined my offer to procure one for him as well, so I went over towards the back of the lounge with just my glass in hand.  I gave it to the bartender and patiently stood by the counter, awaiting my forthcoming Corona [1].  I took note of the fellow who was seated on a bar-stool to my immediate right, as he was loudly and nasally pontificating about something to a pal of his.  I allowed my right ear to voyeur on into his soliloquy.

Yonah made his way back into the beis medrash, and re-sat himself across from Arnone, who was laughing like a hyena at his cellphone screen.  Text messaging, Yonah thought, those SMS devices are going to bring about the complete decay and collapse of civilizationI just don’t get the allure of it all, isn’t it easier to just call the person you’re texting up?

Although I might be pulling out some stops in my pursuit to assure that she does not disappear, Chavie acts as if I am not around, and walks the mall as if it was her personal playground.

The joint looked modestly appointed and ‘under-the-radar’ – we didn’t take much notice of the “Jerry’s” sign in the front-window decorated with an ostensibly telling rainbow.

The Kollel Guy (Part 2)

This entry is part 2 of 6 in the series The Kollel Guy

kollel11

Yonah eyed his gemara; the letters on the page in front of him started to lose focus, and instead of producing one of those 3D-images found in the Sunday funnies, they simply cluttered into a formless glob of gray.  He was startled out of his lacking-in-content-daydream when Arnone suddenly showed up, yelling some some sort of out-of-the-gutter-sounding Farsi salutation/stream of words into his right ear (Yonah had no hearing in his left ear, something that Arnone magically picked up on the first time they met).
